The Flagship Dish

Nasi Campur, Explained Properly

Rice, plus whatever a warung has prepared that day — sate lilit, sambal, egg, tempeh, vegetables — assembled per plate as you point to what you want. It's the single most common meal format at Bali's warungs, and the one dish worth understanding before any of the others.

Food by Region

Where to eat, by area

Each area guide covers genuinely local, currently-operating warungs — not a padded list of every restaurant nearby.

Before You Go

How a Warung Actually Works

No printed menu, no table service, no English required — a few things are worth knowing before your first visit.

  • 01

    Point, don't order

At a nasi campur warung, you point to what you want as your plate is built.

  • 02

    Cash first

QRIS is spreading, but cash is still the safer assumption at a neighborhood warung.

  • 03

    Sambal is optional

Chili condiment is usually served separately — you control the heat.

  • 04

    Lunch is the tell

A warung busy with local lunch traffic is a better signal than decor.

How We Work

Our editorial verification process

We check before we publish

Business facts — address, hours, price, halal status — are checked against official sources, map listings, or credible editorial coverage, and dated. We don't publish unresolved details as fact; see our fact-checking policy.

We separate fact from judgment

Editorial recommendations are clearly labeled as such, based on documented criteria — not sold placements. See our editorial policy for the full methodology.

We keep it current

Every guide shows a last-reviewed date. Details change — we'd rather say "not verified" than guess. See our about page for who's behind MyWarung.
