How this list was built
We started from a list of frequently mentioned "legendary" Bali warung names and individually verified each one via official sites, map listings, and credible travel editorial before publishing anything. Two names from our initial research list are not included here: one ("Warung Mebo") could not be verified as existing in Bali at all, and appears to be a different, same-named restaurant in Jakarta; another ("Warung Laota") turned out to be a Hong Kong-style Cantonese seafood chain rather than a traditional Balinese warung, so it's outside this page's scope. See our fact-checking policy for the full standard, and the excluded section below for details.
We also corrected our own initial assumptions about three businesses' locations during research — Warung Wardani, Nasi Bali Men Weti, and Warung Babi Guling Chandra are all in the Denpasar/Sanur area, not Ubud/Gianyar as originally assumed. The corrected, source-checked details are published below.
Warung Mak Beng
Why it's notable: Operating continuously since 1941 and ranked #3 on TasteAtlas' 2023 list of the world's 150 most legendary restaurants.

Businesses we could not verify
Two names from our initial research candidates are deliberately not profiled above:
- Warung Mebo — no credible source confirmed a Bali location; all sources found point to a same-named restaurant in Tebet, Jakarta. Excluded pending direct verification.
- Warung Laota — verified as real and currently operating, but as a Hong Kong-style Cantonese porridge and seafood chain, not a traditional Balinese warung. Outside this page's scope; not profiled here to avoid misrepresenting its cuisine.
