Central Ubud vs. surrounding villages

Central Ubud (around Jl. Goutama and the main palace area) has a dense, walkable cluster of warungs mixed in with cafés and shops. Villages just outside the center, like Peliatan and Mas, hold some of the area's longest-running local institutions, often with less visitor foot traffic than the very center.

Verified warungs

Warung Teges (Warung Makan Teges)

Jl. Cok Rai Pudak / Jl. Raya Teges, Peliatan

Running since the 1970s. Nasi campur served on banana leaf with shredded chicken, grilled pork, pork sausage, lawar and satay.

Open 07:00–22:00 — go before 11:00–12:00, popular dishes sell out

Not halal (pork)

Warung Biah Biah

Cozy, centrally located warung on Ubud's Goutama Selatan food street. Nasi campur, mie goreng, and inexpensive individual sides.

Halal status unverified

Ibu Oka (Ibu Oka 3)

Jl. Tegal Sari No. 2, near Ubud Palace

One of Bali's most internationally known babi guling institutions, with three confirmed locations.

Rp 8,000–75,000 per dish · 11:00–18:00 or until sold out, cash only

Not halal (pork)

Heavily visited by tour groups — expect queues by early afternoon.

Note: an additional single-dish specialist, Warung Mak Beng, is sometimes associated with the Ubud/Mas area in some listings, but the well-corroborated address for the original 1941 business places it in Sanur — see our legendary warungs guide for that entry rather than listing it here, to avoid publishing an unresolved location conflict.

Vegetarian options

Ubud has one of Bali's stronger vegetarian and vegan dining scenes overall, largely through dedicated vegetarian restaurants and cafés rather than traditional warungs specifically. At standard nasi campur warungs, tofu, tempeh, and vegetable sides are normally available — see our nasi campur guide for how to navigate ordering.

Traditional vs. visitor-oriented places

Ubud's food scene spans from genuinely local warungs like Warung Teges to businesses that have become heavily visitor-trafficked over time (Ibu Oka being the clearest example) without losing their original local roots. Both are worth knowing about for different reasons — see our warung in Bali guide for general signals that distinguish the two.

Prices

Central Ubud warung prices sit in a similar range to other tourist-adjacent Bali areas; village warungs slightly outside the center, like Warung Teges, are often more in line with everyday local pricing. Always check the sourced examples above rather than assuming a single fixed number across the whole area.

Transport and parking

Central Ubud's streets are narrow and increasingly pedestrian-restricted in parts, with limited car parking near the main food streets — scooter or on-foot access is generally easier than driving directly to the door. Village-area warungs like Warung Teges typically have easier roadside access.

Selection criteria

Warungs listed here were selected for a documented operating history, clear signature dishes, and verifiable sourcing (official sites, map listings, or credible travel editorial) — not for being the "best" in any ranked sense. See our editorial policy for the full methodology.
